Stellie Elliott is the team’s principal educator at Afrikaans Success.
I am a qualified teacher with several decades of teaching experience. Sixteen years of those were in Remedial teaching.
I grew up in an Afrikaans home, got my teacher’s education in an English college and university and taught Afrikaans FAL in schools and privately.
Ever since COVID I have focused my expertise solely on online teaching of Afrikaans FAL.
I have always LOVED teaching.
And I mean actual teaching. Not coaching sport, doing Admin or being a policewoman to maintain discipline – extra roles that teachers have to fill. I just wanted to teach.
So I acquired extra qualifications in learning difficulties and started teaching Afrikaans and other core subjects privately. Whenever my students didn’t understand something, I always told them, “That’s ok, it’s my job to find a way to explain it so that you will understand.”
And that’s still my philosophy. I sometimes lie awake at night, thinking about ways and means to present a difficult concept in Afrikaans to make it easier for my students.
I love Afrikaans – it’s a beautiful language, and it saddens me that so many children fear or hate the subject, because it stays beyond their reach.
It’s my mission to help children to feel more confident and empowered in this subject.
